Tell me about your self?
I am a blogger, writer and a business person. I am the co-founder of ESMEE network PVT. Ltd. which runs blogs like SocialVani.com and HowToFightObesity.com.
I also professionally consult firms and digital marketers on online content creation and viral content marketing. I am a freelancer by nature and strongly believe in the ideology of living a life of total independence!
What Is your blogging and seo strategy?
I have a very strong content strategy involving content creation and content publishing. I believe strong and relevant content is 80% job done. However, I do attribute the secondary importance to SEO which it deserves. But yes, strong powerful content across any niche which solves search queries by adding value for the readers will always work.
When did you start blogging professionally ?
I started blogging professionally on a content platform: Hubpages.com. I started earning passively from it after being active for 6 months. It was based on organic content and manual effort marketing.
Did you have any expectations (short term, long term, financially) when you started blogging ? If so, what were those expectations ?
NO! I didn't even exactly know what Google Adsense or Amazon Affiliate were at that point of time. I have been a writer all my life. I first published an article in the 3rd grade for my city-wide magazine. So, I just wanted a channel where I could write about my experiences and my learning. It picked up from there. The money came as a by-product of the value I offered. I did not plan on making money!!
Do you think that there is such a thing as whitehat link building ?
Link Building is a very specific element of blog or digital marketing. Every different niche will allow for some unique link building strategy. Yet, you can easily differentiate between "WhiteHat" and "BlackHat". It is not rocket science. If the link building is genuine as in based on methods like blog commenting, reader engagement, organic social shares and engagement then its whitehat. Even paid marketing like Adwords and FB ads provide you with links. Thats also white hat, but somewhere in the grey area :P
How would you explain in your own words what blackhat SEO really is ?
In my own words.... hehe... all the stuff which you do online to promote your blog which shouldnt be done is blackhat. I dont know much about it and I dont like the concept. I like playing the long term game. I am not looking for hot money!
How would you rate your own blog on a scale of 1 to 10 and why would you rate it that way ?
I am not that active on the blogging scene. I mostly write what I like writing about and people read it. My blog is not business oriented. I have other operations which generate revenues. Therefore I would rate it 10/10 because it satisfies all my purposes.
I’ve heard the comment many times in professional circles online, that “it’s in the list”. What does that comment mean to you ?
If you could tell me, what's in the list, I could tell you something. Right the now the comment means insufficient information to me :P
How long does it really take on average for a blog to become successful online ?
Well, there is no one answer to that. If you talk about the math then there are a lot of variables involved. It mostly depends on the quality of your content and how you reach your target readers. But nowadays, Blogging has become fiercely competitive, so you have to rope in more variables like the traffic coming to your blog or the social influence it is generating.
I have seen blogs succeed in a matter of months, some succeed in the matter of years and some still trying to make a mark. The real deal is that you have to have a plan, work on it, maintain a persistent and patient approach and grow based on value and not on monetary expectations.
Page Rank used to be an important metric for many SEO's. Now SEO's and bloggers pay attention to domain authority and page authority. Do you think these metrics matter in the overall scheme of things in terms of outranking the competition ?
I never think metrics matter. Metrics only allow you to speculate and predict performace and cause of action. They can allow you to experiment but not be active accelerators in your blog growth. Its the effort you put in that matters. All metrics will automatically improve if you provide your readers with quality content and organic outreach programs. Metrics are good to analyse your performance. One shouldnt follow them blindly!
